Towards water security program 2014

In January 2014, at HCMC University of Technical Education and Can Tho University, Vietnam Brewery Limited (VBL) celebrated the undergraduate scholarship and research funding of young talent supporting program – “Toward water security” in 2013-2014 for 22 students and four research topics in Ho Chi Minh City and other cities. Total value of scholarships and funding of the program in 2013-2014 was VND860 million.

The program received 24 research projects on environment and water environment and 27 profiles applying for undergraduate scholarships, of which 12 there were scholarship profiles from students who received scholarships from program of the last year. After review and selection, 22 students meeting the criteria of the program were awarded the scholarships of the year, with VND15 million/scholarship/year. Ten new students and 12 students receiving scholarships last year had good academic performance, satisfying program requirements to continue receiving the scholarship for the academic year of 2013-2014.

Selection Council selected the four students best matching the program’s criteria to award the funding with the total value of VND530 million, including:

- Research on a solution to improve the environmental quality of Tinh Tam Lake in Hue Citadel

- Research on application of GIS and WATERGEMS software for the control of pressure, flow and leak development in the water supply network system level 1, level 2 in HCMC.

- The impact of land-use change and climate change on the hydrological regime of Cua Can River Basin, Phu Quoc, Kien Giang.

- Research on Wastewater Treatment for cattle slaughtering and meat processing with Expanded granular sludge bed model (EGSB), using the bed-bearing Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA).

The young talent supporting program – ““Toward water security” “has been performed by VBL for five years (2012-2017) with the aim of contributing to the support and development of a young scientific  team in the field of environment, who have dreams and ambitions for lasting contribution to the study, management and conservation of water resources in Vietnam.

This is the second year VBL implemented the Young talent supporting program – “Toward water security” last year (2012-2013), the program awarded scholarships to 12 students majoring in the environment and provided funding to three scientific researches on water resources, with a total value of VND540 million.
